Her assignments have required her to trek up and down the tsunami-ravaged coast of India, live with Tibetan nuns, interview coffin makers in Ghana, learn how mobile phones are designed in the US, and much more.
In addition to over 700+ bylines, her career has allowed her to acquire a husband, a child, a dog, and an aversion to getting up early.

Shut Up and Write The NoNonsense No BS Guide to Getting Words on the Page edition by Mridu Khullar Relph Reference eBooks Reviews
Mridu is not only a great writing teacher -- she is a great writer. Clear and to the point. Do YOU want to write? Here is the best advice you'll ever hear "You have to be willing to make that commitment. You have to able to say, “Damn it, there are fifteen minutes of my life each day that are exclusively mine, and I will make the most of them.” Is it that easy? No, not at all. But reading Mridu's words, in sharply focused chapters that also tell stories, will inspire you to give it a go. This is a very helpful book. The title really says it all. Thanks Mridu!!
Where do I begin? This is a wonderful book. I don’t want to write a review that is gushing, but I can’t help but gush about this book. I found myself highlighting so many passages and recognizing myself in so many lines. It was wonderful to find out that I am not alone in having trouble getting the work done, of procrastinating, over-analyzing, and fretting about not making that 1000 word count EVERY SINGLE DAY. The author shares her struggles with these and writes an inspirational and practical guide to getting the work done; a process that worked for her and I’m sure will work for me and others. Written in a wonderful conversational tone it’s like sharing writing advice with a friend or, better yet, a writing coach. It truly is a no B.S guide to getting the words on the page. I’m sure I will refer to this book over and over again. I think every writer should buy it. (I’m serious.)
Review of Shut Up and Write The No-Nonsense, No B.S. Guide to Getting Words on the Page by Mridu Khullar
Do you think of yourself as an "aspiring" or "blocked" writer?
Are you too disorganized or distracted to write regularly?
Are you still an amateur?
Then you need to read this book, pronto. Mridu lists 29 solutions to every conceivable obstacle or excuse you may have.
Here are the ones that resonated with me the most
Pick Your Project (aka "Just Ship")
Select the project that you will work on and bring to completion. Commit to it and from today, work on exclusively until it is complete. (This avoids shiny object syndrome, that afflicts all writers.)
Pick Your Draft
Define which part of the writing process you’re in. Are you prewriting (brainstorming), writing or rewriting? If this is the first draft, focus on completion and tell that internal editor to shut up and get lost. If it's the second draft, it’s time to invite your internal editor to have a go at it. This will help you create the right headspace. (In the words of Daphne Gray-Grant, writing and editing at the same time is as crazy an idea as having dinner and washing the dishes all at once.)
Pick A Trigger (Develop a pre-writing ritual)
A trigger is any event, big or small, that makes it easier for you to start writing and to establish a writing habit.
Your trigger should be something you do every day and you can associate with writing.
Every time you perform the trigger activity, your brain knows it’s time to put words on the page.
For example, Mridu reads an award–winning article or listens to an interview with a narrative nonfiction writer for five minutes and it acts as her trigger.
There's one big problem with this book, however.
If you read it and follow Mridu's advice, you can no longer complain of writer's block or pretend you are waiting for the muse.
(Okay, time to hit my daily writing target.)
This book is charming and useful, and filled with practical advice for anyone who wants to write but needs an extra push to get started.
I love this book- couldn't put it down after downloading last night. I follow Ms. Relph's blog and find her writing style unique- she's confident, conversational, and funny!
I didn't know this book would motivate me the way it has. If you want proven strategies for writing more, this is the book for you.
I'm grateful to the author for writing it. I plan to reread it whenever I lose my focus.
Excellent as a motivational book, but not so much as a practical book. That's not a bad thing, though. It's more about demonstrating that you have no excuses to not write. I enjoyed it and gladly recommend it. I especially enjoyed the story involving the champagne.
Mridu has a very comfortable writing style that's easy to read and provides a sense that she really cares about the reader and is willing to reveal related personal stories that reinforce her wisdom. I found many pieces that helped me in current situations or areas where I'm not performing as I'd like. Enjoyable book, and one that I'm likely to reread in spots along the way in my own writing endeavors.
